Brand deadstock cotton stretch denim fabric from an Italian mill, the composition is cotton plus a touch of lycra. The right side feels somewhat dry to the touch with a slightly raised twill texture, whilst the reverse is plush-feeling and extremely soft against the skin. The colour is a classic dark denim although this is likely to lighten or brighten after washing, and will continue to develop thereafter. (The colour is extremely close to this non-stretch denim from the same mill shown in the last photo.) This denim is quite structured but also has a touch of soft drape. Suitable for jeans and shorts including fitted designs, thicker shirts, denim dresses and skirts, and could also be used for kids wear. Better for clothing rather than crafts as it has stretch. This thickness of denim is probably better without the bulk of elastic but it could work with an elasticated waistband if you really wanted it to.
Note: Denim fabric should be washed separately, as the natural indigo colour will run. Washing a large piece of raw denim in your home washing machine may lead to dye lines caused by creasing, so you may wish to cut the fabric into smaller lengths and/or pre-soak the fabric before putting into the machine to minimise creases. Here's some useful reading: (1) (under the heading "Washing Denim"), and (2). Additionally, if you want to minimise fading, do not leave denim fabric or the finished garment in direct sunlight.
